Climate and Weather
Located in the far south of Ontario, close to the American border and the City of Detroit, Michigan, the Windsor-Essex Region enjoys the warmest climate of any of Ontario's cities. The Windsor-Essex Region is actually located at the same latitude as northern California, and enjoys seven months of short-sleeve weather. The average temperature reaches above 50°F (10°C) 223 days of the year.

Windsor-Essex region weather facts
- Snow depths of greater than 1 cm are seen on about 53 days each year in the Windsor-Essex Region, compared with about 65 days further north in Toronto.
- The Windsor-Essex Region enjoys a sunny climate; its summers usually have a generous number of warm or hot sunny days.
- The Region enjoys four distinct seasons, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the great outdoors with such activities as swimming, scuba diving, pond hockey & cross country skiing, hiking on trails, bird watching.
- The climate in the Windsor-Essex Region area lends itself to a picturesque environment; just imagine the natural beauty of having water on three sides of your community, as is the case here. We are surrounded by Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River.
The Great Lakes ensure the Region has mild winters with very little snowfall, and long warm summers. This temperate climate provides one of the longest growing seasons in Canada, extending from April to October.
In the fall, the release of heat stored in the lakes has a moderating effect. Comfortable, sunny days and cool, bracing nights make this season a favourite time of year.
