Town of Tecumseh Receives Housing Enabling Water Systems Funding

Tecumseh, ON – The Town of Tecumseh is proud to announce that it was recently selected by the Province of Ontario as a recipient of funding through the Housing Enabling Water Systems Fund from the Ministry of Infrastructure, to help municipalities develop, repair, rehabilitate and expand critical drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure.

Funding from the Province will be used to construct crucial infrastructure to support the development of the Tecumseh Hamlet Secondary Plan Area, with the installation of 1.8-km of trunk watermain and 1.7-km of trunk sanitary sewer. This new infrastructure will enable approximately 4059 homes to be serviced, ultimately contributing a 41% increase in overall housing units within the Town of Tecumseh. The Province of Ontario will contribute 73% of the total eligible costs of the project, which equates to estimated Provincial funding of $15.1 million dollars. The Tecumseh Hamlet Secondary Plan Area is on the western side of the Town, bounded by County Road 22, Banwell Road and County Road 42.

“We know that thousands of families would love to call Tecumseh their home, but cannot find the housing that they need today. I am truly thrilled to deliver our government’s investment of $15,121,676.25 that will remove the barriers to housing in the Tecumseh Hamlet and help approximately 4,059 new families and individuals join our incredible community” said MPP Andrew Dowie.
