Council Connect: Highlights from October 8, 2024, meetings of Council

Public Meeting of Council

ZBA Petretta MRSPA Lands: Council heard public comment on a Zoning By-law amendment application for a 9.5 hectare (23.5 acre) parcel of land located south of County Road 22, and east of Lesperance Road, within the Manning Road Secondary Plan Area. The proposed application is to facilitate the future construction of a 332-unit residential development consisting of two 4-6 storey apartment buildings.

Regular Meeting of Council

Tecumseh Community Hub – Grant Submissions: Council received the report outlining Administration's recommendation that a grant submission should be made to the federal Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program and the provincial Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund, Stream 2 to build a net-zero carbon community building addition to the Tecumseh Arena site for sport, recreation and community programs and services. Expanding on the former plans for the Tecumseh Multiplex, the newly imagined Tecumseh Community Hub will feature a triple gym, multipurpose rooms for community services, and common public spaces to encourage community unity with partners and community users. Council authorized submitting both applications for funding.

Town of Tecumseh Indemnification By-Law: An indemnification by-law protects Council members, Boards, Committees, employees, and volunteers from personal liability and financial loss if they face legal action while performing their duties for the Town. Indemnification can also play a key role in attracting qualified individuals to serve as officers of the Town. Council received the report and recommended that the bylaw receive first, second, third and final readings at the October 22, 2024, Regular Council Meeting.

Housing Enabling Core Servicing Stream County Road 19 Corridor Improvements: Council authorized Administration to submit a joint application with the County of Essex to the provincial government for funding under the Housing Enabling Core Servicing Stream 2024 Intake for a future commitment for the County Road 19 Corridor Improvements Project. The Housing Enabling Core Servicing (HECS) funding stream is a competitive application-based funding program under the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP), for projects that will unlock new opportunities for increased housing while ensuring communities have safe and reliable road and transit infrastructure.

Next Regular Meeting: The next regular meeting of Council is October 22, 2024. The meeting is scheduled to be held electronically. The agenda and livestream will be available on the Town’s website. Follow the Town of Tecumseh on Facebook and X for news and the latest information.
