Council Connect: Highlights from September 24, 2024,meetings of Council 

Public Meeting of Council:  

Tecumseh Hamlet Secondary Plan Presentation of Draft Document and Scheduling of a Public Meeting: Council received a report summarizing the purpose and content of the Draft Tecumseh Hamlet Secondary Plan, including planning and servicing process and public/agency consultation undertaken to date and the key engagement outcomes. Council also heard public comment on the proposed Official Plan amendment required to incorporate the Tecumseh Hamlet Secondary Plan (THSP) into the Tecumseh Official Plan. On consideration of the input received this evening from the public, a report will be prepared for Council’s consideration and decision on the proposed Official Plan amendment. 

Regular Meeting of Council 

2024 Business Improvement Area Proposed Budget: Council received the Business Improvement Area (BIA) proposed budget for 2025. The 2024 BIA Proposed Budget requires a levy of $235,000, equal to the levy of 2023. Major 2024 initiatives for the BIA include marketing, beautification, and membership launch of the BIA dollars. Council approved the budget.  

Strategic Priorities 2023 Report Out: At the beginning of each term of Council, Members of Council and Administration meet to discuss and set corporate strategic priorities for the next term. Administration is happy to submit the annual 2023 report out to Council and residents. You can find the report out at tecumseh.ca/strategicpriorities.  

Amendment to the Community and Recreation Services One Year Capital Works Plan - Arena Restoration: In 2023, the Tecumseh Arena was damaged from a flooding event. The Arena is now undergoing repairs, along with renewal of all interior spaces, that will modernize the facility. During the demolition and removal part of the project, the contractor found damage and problems inside the lobby that could lead to failures. Council received a report for an additional capital budget allocation of $138,000 and $200,000 is sought to complete the exterior works outlined in this report. Council approved the report. 

Boulevard Maintenance By-Law: Council approved updates to the Boulevard Maintenance By-law including clearer definitions, improved language, and stronger enforcement measures. Additionally, a new provision was added which allows the Town to take immediate action in situations where safety concerns arise. Bylaw 2024-078 was given first, second and final reading.  

Regional IT Mutual Aid Agreement: Council received a report for regional IT mutual aid, where local municipalities will support aid in case of crisis. The IT Emergency Mutual Aid agreement between municipalities can offer several key benefits, particularly in times of crisis or technical difficulties. These agreements create a formalized structure for collaboration, allowing municipalities to pool information technology resources and expertise when needed.
