Thirteen area residents wanted a venue to display the Town and surrounding area's rich history, and formed the Tecumseh Area Historical Society in 1997. The Society has many artifacts including:
- medical supplies from Col. Paul Poisson, who was Tecumseh's first mayor
- deeds from Tecumseh, St. Clair Beach, Maidstone and Sandwich South
- antique photographs of the old centre of the town
- items from the Tecumseh Baseball Club
- a Doherty pump organ
- the telephone switchboard from Hotel Dieu Hospital
- an Essex Scottish army uniform
- a portrait of the Town's first postmaster - Joseph Christe
- bottles from the Town's past breweries are also popular with museum visitors
The Tecumseh Area Historical Society receives its operating funds almost entirely from private donations.
The Tecumseh Feather Sculpture series was developed to showcase the creativity of children within the community, and to beautify the Town’s public spaces. The project was sponsored by the Town and the Tecumseh Area Historical Society, as well as the artsVest Ontario program, an initiative of Business for the Arts which matched the generous corporate sponsorship of local businesses. The original oil pastel designs were produced by students from the intermediate grades during in-school workshops held at schools from each of the community's school boards. The young artists were charged with making art that expressed their thoughts and feelings about Tecumseh life and culture. Selected designs were then reproduced on vinyl and applied to base sculptures created by Tecumseh-born artist, Ron Dufault. The feather sculptures bring colour and whimsy to the Town's municipal grounds and public parks, reminding residents that Tecumseh is a wonderful place to nurture young, creative contributors to our ever-changing cultural environment.
