When do nominations open?

Nominations open on Monday, May 2, 2022 and Nomination Day is Friday, August 19, 2022.

Individuals who want to run for the office of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Councillor, or School Board Trustee may file nomination papers starting Monday, May 2, 2022. The final day to file nomination papers is Friday, August 19, 2022, between 9 am and 2 pm. 

How do I file my nomination?

All nomination forms and accompanying documentation must be filed in person, with the Legislative Services and Clerk's Department, at Town Hall. Appointments can be made by calling 519-735-2184, ext. 139.

Candidates must provide the following information/forms:

  • Photo identification;
  • Nomination Form;
  • *Signature of 25 eligible electors supporting the nomination;
  • Declaration of Qualifications;
  • Pay the nomination fee of $200 for Mayor or $100 for Councillor or School Trustee (payable by cash, debit or certified cheque).

You must file your nomination forms before you can accept election contributions or incur campaign expenses.

*The requirement to submit 25 nomination signatures does not apply to School Board Trustee positions. 

Who is eligible to run for Town Council? 

To run for municipal office in Tecumseh, you must be a qualified municipal elector and meet the following requirements:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen;
  • Be at least 18 years old;
  • Reside in the Town of Tecumseh, or be the owner or tenant of land in Tecumseh, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
  • Not be prohibited from voting under section 17(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, or under any other law.

Nomination packages

Nomination packages for candidates and registration packages for Third Party Advertisers are available for pick up at Town Hall, 917 Lesperance Road starting Monday, May 2, 2022 during regular business hours.

Candidates and Third Parties wishing to pick up a package or file their nomination/registration papers are asked to make an appointment with the Clerk's Office by contacting the Clerk at 519-735-2184, ext. 139 or by emailing the Clerk before they come to Town Hall.

Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board:  Town of Tecumseh

Greater Essex County District School Board:  Town of Lakeshore

Conseil scolaire Viamonde:  City of Windsor

Conseil scolaire catholique Providence:  Wards 1, 2, 3 - Town of Tecumseh

     Wards 1 and 2 - Town of Lakeshore

     Wards 4 and 5 - Town of LaSalle

Who is eligible to run for School Board Trustee?

To run for a trustee position on a school board, you must be eligible to vote in that school board election and meet the following requirements:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen;
  • Be at least 18 years of age or older;
  • Be a resident within the jurisdiction of the board;
  • Not be prohibited from voting under section 17(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, or under any other law; and
  • Must meet any other qualifications for the school board (i.e. Roman Catholic, French language rights holder).

*The requirement to submit 25 nomination signatures does not apply to School Board Trustee positions.

School board candidates should email their profiles.

Interested candidates should include the following with their profile:

  • Name
  • School board and ward
  • Photo
  • Brief biography
  • Email address
  • Website address.

All candidates, including those not elected, those who withdraw their nomination or those whose nomination is rejected by the Town Clerk, must disclose and report their contributions and expenses, using the Financial Statement - Auditor's Report - Candidate Form 4

A Candidate's campaign period starts on the date that the nomination is filed and ends on December 31, 2022, or if the nomination is withdrawn, on the date of withdrawal.

All candidates for office (even those that have withdrawn their nomination) are required to file financial statements with the Clerk by 2 pm on March 29, 2023.

Should a Candidate file a Form 6 to extend their Campaign they are also required to file supplementary filings.
